Web Video

Due to the large physical constraints of video there will always be a problem with the amount to video material that can be displayed on a machine at anyone time. For larger sections of video we have been looking at the ways in which we can delivery as much high end video quality as possible.

Streaming Video

Much of the problem with sitting a file on a server is that the video has to downloaded in its entirety before the movie will start to play, steaming video will allow the movie to start playing as soon as it has enough of the movie to play. The reason for this is because it uses video hints a small file is opened by the software, either QuickTime provided by a QuickTime steaming server, Real-player by real networks or Media player from Microsoft and windows streaming server.

There are many benefits to be had from using this type of technology, as already pointed out the main reason is that you now don’t have to wait until the movie is downloaded before you start playing. This is most helpful, as you wouldn’t want to download say 20 MB’s of movie just to find it isn’t want you want. The other main benefit of opening a file in such a way is that it can’t be much more secure from people looking to rip the video material off your site
